The Frisian lakes, the Wadden Islands, the Frisian Elfsteden, the Alde Feanen and the city of Leeuwarden. Whether you are looking for the quietness of one of the four national parks or would like to discover Frisian culture, Friesland is a wonderful place for a holiday, a weekend away or for living.

Four national parks and Unesco World Heritage

The province of Friesland has no less than four national parks. The Wadden area is listed on Unesco’s World Heritage list and was selected as most beautiful natural area of the Netherlands in 2016. Friesland is great for walking, cycling, and if you’re lucky, you can skate on natural ice in the winter. Also the Frisian lake area is extremely suitable for all kinds of water sports and swimming.

Frisian Elfsteden

Planning a city trip to Friesland? Then why not visit eleven cities instead of just one. Of course, you must visit the capital Leeuwarden, but Sneek, IJlst, Sloten, Stavoren, Hindeloopen, Workum, Bolsward, Harlingen, Franeker and Dokkum are also fantastic. You can visit the eleven cities of Friesland by boat, car, or bike.

Friesland and the WFDF 2020 World Ultimate & Guts Championships

Both the council of Leeuwarden and the province of Friesland have invested in the WFDF 2020 World Ultimate & Guts Championships. The event will bring thousands of people to Friesland, who will sleep, eat and shop here for at least eight days. It will also put Friesland on the map as the organiser of large (sports) events.
